Are you putting your best foot forward?

  • Are you putting your best foot forward?

Are you putting your best foot forward?

I always feel the start of the year is a time to strive forward with renewed focus on our personal development and the things we want to achieve. It is also a great time to reflect on what we wanted for the previous year and maybe the reasons why we didn’t quite get to some of the things we had intended to.

It is always good to ask yourself:

    • Did I get in my own way/block myself, and how?
    • Did I allow someone else to put blocks up?
    • Did I get lost in the day-to-day busyness of life and work?

If you are answering ‘yes’ then maybe the goals just weren’t that important to you?

If they were important, still are and you want to concentrate on how to be happier and how to achieve goals in 2015, then now is the time to work out how you can prioritise things differently so you don’t go another year without achieving all you set out to.

So why aren’t you achieving? If it is quite a big thing you want to achieve, look at how you can break it down into smaller chunks so it doesn’t seem like such a huge task. Massive goals and projects can be overwhelming if not broken down, so in the end we might not even start them but come up with all kinds of excuses as to why we didn’t!

If someone else is putting up barriers, remember they can only negatively impact on us if we allow them to. Remember other people also have a vested interest in keeping us the same if they don’t like how what we are intending to do will change their world and have an impact on them.

If something is important enough to you, a plan and a conversation might be needed so they can understand how the impact on them could be managed and be a positive thing, so you can then get the support that you need.

If you are getting lost in the day-to-day busyness – then maybe you need to put a different emphasis on the things you are not getting to? If you turn your goal into smaller chunks, you may be able to start your week with a couple of hours on it rather than leaving it until you finish everything else. Let’s be honest we all always have things on our ‘to do list’ so if your goal keeps getting put at the bottom of the list – the chances are you won’t have time to get to it.

If that is you – look at things from a different perspective, reprioritise, break goals down into smaller chunks – take a deep breath and start!

Then be all of who you can be in the world.

Wishing you a happy and successful 2015.
