Living with Lyme Disease and other auto immune diseases has sent me on a journey to find out the best ways of supporting myself and my compromised immune system.  So I wanted to share this information for any of you out there looking for an immune boost!

Black Seed Oil

Taken from the annual flowering plan, Nigella Sativa, Black Seed oil has documented research on its benefits to many illnesses. For over two thousand years it has been used by various cultures throughout the world as a health boosting food but many of us in the western world have never heard of it.

It is rich in 3 natural chemicals: Thymoquinone (TQ), Thymohydroquinone (THQ) and Thymol. Together these chemicals provide for a potent oil that makes it an excellent anti-oxidant, an anti-inflammatory and has been used medicinally to treat a range of conditions including cancer, Alzheimer’s, autism, dementia, neurodegenerative conditions, Parkinson’s, hair loss, diabetes, skin disorders and infections like MRSA.

It also acts as a cellular antioxidant and helps support the liver in dealing with toxins and helps prevent both liver damage and disease.

It has been used against superbugs in trials more successfully than antibiotics. In one trial published in the Journal of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, it was used against 30 different pathogens with each of its 3 compounds showing 100% inhibition for the pathogens.

Go for organic and cold pressed so you don’t risk contamination from pesticides or chemicals. You can take one to three teaspoons a day straight from the spoon, add it to juice or use as a salad dressing.

Oregano Oil

Oregano oil has two compounds of Carvacrol and Thymol, both having powerful anti-bacterial properties.

In tests it has been used successfully for bacterial and fungal infections, parasites, viruses, inflammation, candida, allergies and tumours.

It is a very potent oil and can be taken with a drop in another oil such as coconut oil or even the black seed oil. You can also add a few drops in water and use as a steam inhalation for colds and sore throats.

As it is so powerful, some recommend that you don’t take it over a long period and just use it as a boost for a couple of weeks, so always take it under the care of a nutritional specialist.

There are over 800 studies referenced on PubMed, the world’s number one database for evidence-based literature if you want to search on its uses for particular health issues.

Give it a go!

Taking regular or long-term antibiotics can cause additional health problems such as antibiotic resistance, destroying good bacteria, reduction in the absorption of vitamins and damage to the digestive lining causing leaky gut, which is why I am always on the look out for alternatives.

Both black seed and oregano oil have enormous natural health benefits and can be used to boost your immune system as well as help to treat a number of health conditions.

What is not to love!

Remember organic is best and make sure you check with a health professional to understand what the right dose would be for you, and particularly for children and pregnant ladies.

Look after your health and enjoy every day!
